Importance of Play in Montessori Education

Play is an essential part of early childhood education, even more in a Montessori education. In fact, students and teachers who are part of the Montessori approach take play so seriously that they consider it as ‘work’.

We take our play very seriously here at Castlemore Montessori. Play plays a central role in how we provide childcare in Brampton, Ontario as it is a natural way by which children learn at a young age. It helps develop among children a mindset that learning is fun.

Another benefit of play is how it encourages young children to express themselves freely without fear of making a mistake. Thus, there is a bigger chance that they will discover hidden interests and talents, that may have gone unnoticed under a more formal curriculum.

Play satisfies plenty of learning needs among young children, both when they play alone and when they play with others. Children playing alone may discover an affinity for music or reading, while children playing in groups may explore their talents in leadership and sports.

Every Montessori providing preschool care in Ontario should have the art of play in its programming. Children can also benefit from fun learning activities when the class is over too.
