Your Child’s Early Communication Journey

Witnessing a child’s communication milestones can be one of the most precious and earliest memories parents and family members have with the child. As attentive parents, you may be interested to learn what communication achievements your child is ready to express as the months pass by.

Here is a summary of how their communication development happens. Of course, every child is unique, and their progress may look different than what is shared.

  • From zero to three months

The earliest sign of understanding is when the child responds to a trigger. They can make some noise, turn their head to the source, or make themselves quiet. They can make eye contact and show facial expressions.

  • From four to 12 months

Parents may see a lot of development in how the child communicates, and the babbling sounds are sure to add cuteness during conversations. In the later part, the child will be able to imitate or say meaningful words and respond to basic instructions.

  • From 1 year to 2 years

By this time, the child can combine different words to make up phrases or sentences. They can also recognize the name of objects or body parts. This verbal identification signals a growing vocabulary. They may also show interest in stories or conversations.
